Memorial and BG students battle it out at spelling bees
Both Memorial Middle School and Beatrice Gilmore School held spelling bees this spring.
Memorial’s fourth annual Spelling Bee saw students first compete in class competitions during language arts. The top spellers from each class moved on to the finals, with 24 competitors in attendance. The competitors went through four rounds. The top three spellers were Jake Parkerton (first place), Jayda Blucher (second place), and Fouad Sada (third place). Jake moved on to the regional Scripps Spelling Bee in Scranton, Pa.
Beatrice Gilmore School held its first ever Spelling Bee this year. Students first competed in class competitions during language arts. The top spellers from each class moved on to the finals, which had 45 competitors in attendance. The competitors went through 14 rounds. The top three spellers were Yusra Gulam (third place), Memhet Aybar (first place), and Melina Figarella (second place). Memhet moved on to the regional Scripps Spelling Bee in Scranton, Pa.
