A Letter from Mrs. Barreto
Dear Charles Olbon School Families,
It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as your newly appointed principal for the 2020-2021 school year. It is truly an honor to begin this new role and to continue to serve the community of Woodland Park in this capacity. I am excited to work alongside the Charles Olbon School staff and provide our youngest learners with a healthy and happy environment to achieve success.
This school year marks my 20th year in education here in Woodland Park. As a graduate of Passaic Valley High School, I grew up in Totowa for most of my life. English Writing was the focus of my undergraduate studies at William Paterson University. A few years thereafter, I returned to William Paterson and earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
My teaching profession began in 2001, and throughout my 15 years of successful classroom teaching experiences, I was fortunate to teach in two of our district’s elementary schools: Charles Olbon and Beatrice Gilmore. In 2016, I began my administrative career at Memorial School where I served as Vice Principal and then Principal for the past four years.
It is my belief that all students have the capacity to learn, grow, and develop at their own pace. In order for our children to build upon their learning, strong explicit instructional practices, repetitious procedures, and well-developed organizational skills are critical during the primary years. These important elements, coupled with a focus on social and emotional development, will help to ensure the creation of a stable educational foundation for each child.
The faculty and staff will continue to focus on providing our CO students with a positive, fun, and nurturing environment to learn and grow in. I look forward to a wonderful school year together!
Mrs. Lisa Barreto
