• Welcome back to an exciting school year!  This year, our Spanish classes will transition to full immersion.  Starting soon, all lessons, directions and classroom participation will be in Spanish. We are beginning the year slowly with simple greetings and classroom commands. We are then using a communication rubric to transition to full immersion.   Because the class is limited to meeting once a week, I will be gradually adding an online component to the program where students may be required to watch a video, preview digital flashcards or listen to a song for homework.  Encouraging your children to practice Spanish at home will greatly help.   It is my hope that as the year progresses, the students will be able to feel more confident and communicate completely in Spanish.

Here are some suggestions to help your child practice at home:

    • Listen to music in Spanish.
    • Watch your favorite t.v show or movie in Spanish or with Spanish sub titles.
    • Watch Spanish t.v. or movies.
    • At the self check-out, or whenever possible, select Spanish.
    • Change the language settings on any device or webpage to Spanish.
    • Try to communicate with a native speaker.

    2nd Trimester Update:

Kindergarten students are greeting with abuelito.  This little grandpa puppet helps students learn how to greet each other in Spanish through songs like: ¡Buenos Días! Song, Hola, ¿Como estas? and ¿Quién está aquí?  Students are using family vocabulary and listening to stories like: Rubia and the 3 Osos and Los Tres Chivos Vivos.

First grade students are learning how the days of the week.

Second grade students are using days/months vocabulary to tell birthdays and other important dates.

Third Grade students are learning calendar vocabulary.  Students are also working on an All About Me writing prompt that includes, name, age, date, birthday, and family info.

Fourth grade students are using calendar vocabulary to describe picture prompts.

I am very proud of our students and impressed by their efforts (and dance moves).  Keep up the good work!
