• Dear Memorial Middle School Families,

I am very excited to begin my third year as Assistant Principal at Memorial Middle School. I look forward to continuing to make connections with the wonderful students and staff at our school.

This fall marks the beginning of my 18th year working in Woodland Park. My career began in 2001 as a Basic Skills Instructor at Charles Olbon School.  Two years later, I became a fourth grade classroom teacher at CO until I was transferred to Beatrice Gilmore School in 2007. Within my time at BG, I taught both the third and the fourth grade including the accelerated Language Arts classes, co-teaching in an inclusion setting, and also as the Basic Skills Coordinator for the district. In 2016, I was afforded the wonderful opportunity to assume the role of Assistant Principal at Memorial Middle School, and I started my career as an educational leader.

We are in our second year of full implementation of our 6 Pillars of Character Education program. Each week our students receive a full period of Character Education on Wednesdays in their Language Arts classes. During this time, our Health and Language Arts teachers focus on a specific pillar on a 6 week rotation: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

At Memorial Middle School, we are fortunate to have a dedicated and talented faculty that works extraordinarily hard to create an outstanding learning community. Together, we will continue to support our rigorous curriculum, and challenge all students to become true twenty-first century learners while providing them with an exceptional learning environment filled with experiences to enhance their emotional, social, and intellectual growth.

I look forward to working together with Mr. Silverstein, the amazing staff, students, and their families as they learn and grow at Memorial Middle School.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Lisa Barreto, M.Ed.
